4Worked well for me, but the cables are very short
By Chuck
My sister gave me this jump starter (model J45C09) for Christmas. I used it for the first time yesterday to jump start my car after its battery drained. The car started on the first attempt. The jumper is very easy to use, BUT the cables are VERY short, which severely limits where you can set the unit down while it is connected to the car. There is no way you could put the jumper on the ground while the cables are connected to the car. In my case (I have a Civic), I had to set the jumper on the small flat area just above the radiator. It was a precarious position because if the car had shaken much when I tried to start it, the jumper could have fallen to the ground. The only other options were to find someone to hold the jumper, or lean it against the top of the engine, which I thought might be dangerous. So, this thing works, but if you can find a starter with longer cables, I recommend you do so.I haven't tried using the compressor or the USB power outlet yet.Incidentally, you have to charge the jumper for 24 hours when you first get it. You charge it using an extension cord plugged into a regular household electrical outlet.I recommend you keep the instruction booklet with the jumper so you can refer to the instructions when you need to use it. I placed the booklet in a zip locking plastic bag and taped the bag to the jumper.

5Stanley J45C09 gets my recommendation
By arecf
(Update: 10/2011: We now have 4 of these. Great charger/compressor.)I purchased 3 of these charger/compressors for my family and have had for approx one year. The battery inside definitely holds a charge. The manual says to check the charge/recharge every 60 days. Unit has convenient 3-LED system for indicating amount of charge remaining. After 4 months and after pumping up approx. 20 automobile tires, the charger I use was on 2nd of 3 LED's and still pumped fine. I also started an SUV with a dead battery. Worked fine. Agree that cables are short, but I believe they are long enough to reach the battery in conventional vehicles (Honda Pilot & Honda/Acura sedans). The light works just fine for pumping up tires and for jump starting a dead battery. This charger/compressor gets my recommendation.

1good while it lasted
By Wayne Mitzner
When i first got this, it worked great. it was used to start a garden tractor and a car with a dead battery. However, the battery in the unit seems inferior, and did not hold a charge for more than about a month. Recharging was not able to get it to full charge, according to the lights on the unit. Now in the cold weather it won't hold a charge at all, and the unite is only about 9 months old. If it is to be of any value, it should have a better battery.
