5Does exactly what it says on the tin
By Andrew Spencer
I would switch it off when it isn't being used but I have had no problems with it after 6 months of use. It is very inexpensive for the high quality.

4Works as advertised
By -- ps
Saw so many bad reviews about small converters smoking, I was hesitant to get one. Success! I ran my 220V Sleepmate (45W) for about 6 hours straight and no problems. I suspect the smoking was due to overload (like a 1000W hair dryer) or not having the voltage-selection switch set to match the wall outlet voltage.I'm a EE with quite a bit of soldering and electronic construction knowledge so I took it apart to inspect. The device is dirt-simple, a transformer, a DPDT switch, and a fuse. What can go wrong? Well, the parts and construction are fine, I give soldering quality only a C. The case isn't grounded which was a bit odd (but Euro Plug doesn't have a GND). Actually, I see now it is not UL or CSA certified.Note the unit's cord has the 2-pin Euro plug but included is a US adapter. Two spare fuses, too (F3AL250V, 3A 20mm). My only remaining concern is the bottom of the unit gets warm as the rubber feet are only about 1/4" tall. I may put longer rubber feet or something to get it higher off the surface.
