3It works but i expected better
By E. Jorgensen
The good: Price. Power output. Form factor. The bad: No onboard fuse. Owner's manual valueless. Aluminum set screws on the power connectors. The owner's manual doesn't even tell you what fuse size to use, and it does not have a fuse. Does it have an internal protection circuit? I sure hope so, but the manual doesn't say.I did some math and used a 125A fuse on the battery end of a length of 4ga copper. The manual doesn't recommend a wire gauge either, but the cables it comes with appear to be around a 4. You couldn't fit 2ga wires into the terminals on the back, and 3ga isn't something you can just buy.It fits neatly under the driver's seat of my 1994 Land Cruiser and should handle about anything i wish to throw at it, which is why i bought it. It's not as though i am going to plug in a shopvac or a hotplate. But it's over-spec for nearly anything i'd use on a camping trip, and it's small. But the set screws. What the heck. Aluminum set screws to secure the high current wiring to the back of this thing. Applying enough torque with your screwdriver to keep the giant wire from slipping out will ruin the set screws. They should be brass or steel. For one of mine I have already decided to find a replacement at the hardware store.Oh, and the the power lugs are so close to the corner of the enclosure that it can be tricky to securely mount the unit with a screw on that corner.
