5Pretty good inverter

This seems like a pretty good inverter. It had it's trial by fire about two weeks ago when there was a "blue sky outage" at my place. It ran my chest freezer and refrigerator with no problem at all. The fans are pretty loud as others have said, but I can live with it. It ran my appliances for about 2.5 hours before I got a low battery alarm. I hadn't charged those batteries in a few weeks, so maybe it will go longer with the charge topped off. I'm going to run a test with an oscilloscope at work to see exactly what the output voltage waveform looks like. I will post a "scope shot" here once I have it. The only minor complaint is that the input power studs are a strange size. They are 9mm metric. I can't find spare nuts that size anywhere, not even online. If you loose the hex nuts from the input terminals, you're screwed. You'll probably have to order them from the company at what I sure will be a significant mark-up.

4Great Inverter, Fan Noise Solved Easily

This is my second time I've purchased this inverter. My first purchase was for my last RV camper which we just sold.I really enjoyed having the ability to use my microwave, TV, and other items at night while camping without having to run the generator.However, I did not enjoy the fact that this inverter would run the fans continuously even with a 25 watt TV load!I resolved to fix this problem with my second purchase for my new camper and here is how I did it.Steps: (1) Purchase 2 thermostat switch for each fan (a) Switch 1 turns on at 100 deg F and turns off at 85 deg F If you use the following switch, you'll need to flatten the terminals parallel to the heat sink. http://www.amazon.com/Thermostat-Switch-Circuit-100%C2%B0F-Flange/dp/B0026RYU4W/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1365826213&sr=8-2&keywords=thermo+switch (b) Switch 2 turns on at 120 deg F and turns off at 105 deg F http://www.amazon.com/Thermostat-Switch-Circuit-120%C2%B0F-Flange/dp/B0026RTEZC/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1365826213&sr=8-6&keywords=thermo+switch (2) Dissassmble inverter (there are 4 sheet metal screws on the front faceplat and 4 on rear faceplate) (a) remove ground wire to bottom slide panel of inverter (b) remove ground wire to side of upper box panel of inverter (c) Slide everything apart (3) Using sheet metal screws or threaded screws with washers and nuts, mount one thermoswitch on each side of heat sink. There is plenty of room for the thermoswitches but test fit to make sure you can put things back together. (4) Cut/Splice the red wire from each double wire running to each fan to a lug of its respectively installed thermoswitch and solder. Use a hot glue gun to support the thin wire soldered to each thermoswitch lug. (5) Heat shrink, glue, tape, ziptie wiring as necessary to secure it. Ensure wire "heat shield tubing" is still protecting run of wire to each thermostwitch. (6) Reinstall ensuring nothing gets pinched or shorted. Don't forget to reinstall the two ground wires to the bottom and top (side) case components. (7) Marvel at your work and enjoy a nice quiet inverter whose fans don't turn on with small loads such an LCD tv in your RV camper without having to hear two fans running continuously!Options: With things apart, replace fans with quiet units. The fans dont bother me when they are running when needed. They move air and moving air makes noise. However, a 1500 watt inverter won't get hot when you are running loads less than 200 watts and having two fans run at this power output level are unnecessary in my opinion. If you want, you can only install a thermocouple for one fan if you need an extra buffer of "safety"Enjoy and I hope this tip helps others. 3Noisy and GFCI outlet selective

PROS:- Seems well made- Control panel is handyCONS:- The user guide mentioned the inverter could not be connected to circuits where neutral is connected or shared with ground. Even after isolating a circuit with separate hot, neutral, and ground connections the GFCI outlet trips if connected to an AC panel. An old MSW inverter did not shut off, this one does (and I know how to connect it)- The fans are really LOUD, uncertain of the power drain they cause but there are two 80mm fans- the fans turn on at 50w (in my basement in late winter, chassis and air temp is cold, about 55-60deg)- The unit I just received has a mfr date of 1/2011 (14 months old before even using it, perhaps it is a slow seller)VIDEO of fan noise:[...]
