Product Description

Tripp Lite`s AVR900U line-interactive UPS offers complete protection for PCs, workstations and other sensitive electronics in an ultra-compact, mountable housing. Prevents data loss and system downtime by providing battery-supported AC output during blackouts and Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) during brownouts and overvoltages. Includes 12 output receptacles, 4 of which are widely spaced to accommodate large transformer blocks without obstructing adjacent outlets. 6 outlets feature full battery support and surge suppression, protecting computers, monitors and other vital system components from power loss. 6 additional outlets with surge suppression only are ideal for printers and other peripherals not requiring battery support. Single-line telephone suppression jacks protect modems, fax machines, cordless phones or other equipment with a DSL or standard dialup RJ-11 phone line connection. Built-in splitter protects two devices sharing a single line. USB port with included cable and PowerAlert monitoring software enables safe unattended system shutdown in case of extended power failure. HID-compliant USB interface enables integration with built-in power management and auto-shutdown features of Windows and Mac OS X.

4Solid product, but additional features desired.
By Brent Davingman
Pros: Works with Macintosh Leopard's Energy System Preferences. 12 outlets and 4 are spaced for AC adapters, nothing else like it for this price!Cons: No software for Macintosh so can't monitor UPS for voltage drops. Likewise, I can see the power level (which seems to be plenty for my 19" CRT, Dual G4, speakers, wireless access point, USB hub, speakers, wireless mouse, DSL modem, and cordless phone) but I don't know how much time I have left or other "niceties" that additional software would likely bring.

4Hardware Is Fine, But Software Stopped Working
By jimmy
The Tripp Lite AVR900U seems like a well-made and effective piece of hardware. For it, I downloaded Tripp Lite PowerAlert 12.04.0055--the latest version. At first, PowerAlert worked very well. Then, however, I updated my Java Standard Edition software to Version 7 Update 21. Now PowerAlert does not work at all. It takes far longer to load and none of its features is functional. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling--no effect. I have to assume the Java update caused the problem. If that is in fact true, I would say that Tripp Lite needs to provide a corresponding update of PowerAlert.Follow-up. I finally gave up on the software and uninstalled it for good, allowing the hardware to stand on its own. A few days later, an electrical storm caused an extensive power outage. The Tripp Lite UPS kicked in as soon as the power failed. It sounded an alarm and kept the computer going steadily through some brief brown-outs and into the final blackout. I had plenty of time to shut down the computer normally, then switched off the UPS to silence the alarm. In other words, the UPS hardware worked perfectly. I was favorably impressed and--despite the software problem--don't mind saying so.

5Decent compact UPS with replaceable battery
By James G. Magee
Most compact UPSes don't have a user replaceable battery. Since the batteries typically only last 3 years it's a good idea to find a ups where you can change out the battery. This one is simple and small. Just what I needed. The one grip is that I was not easy for me to programmatically change the settings to disable the alarm beeping. I have a mac (which makes basic set up dead easy with this ups) but they don't have a downloadable program for the mac. Anyways you can always open and remove the alarm speaker.
