Transformer Purchase Guide:
Remember to leave at least a 100% slack for the transformer. For the TVs, the power surge margin is 5 times the wattage of the TV. Heating appliances, laser printers and power tools spike when you turn them on. For these products you need to buy a transformer that is at least 3 times the items capacity.

1Stopped working after 3 uses
By P. McGinnis
Avoid this one. Broke down after 3 uses, even though the appliance connected to it was well within the tolerance limit. Any returns are basically impossible with this seller (enormous set of conditions and they do not take back faulty merchandise), so we are basically stuck with a very very heavy piece of junk.

4120 / 220 volt converter does not last long.

The: 1500 Watts Heavy Duty 110V-220V Step Up / Down Voltage Transformer Converter for Worldwide Use - Model VOD 1500 2Way was a great price, fast delivery, worked wonderfully first few short uses, then unexpectedly died with same equipment use, just minutes after start-up. I was using this device to power a 1200 watt stage-light with 1400 watt power regulator. Seems like something minor inside is malfunctioning. Manufacturer hopefully will quickly find the problem and fix it. Then this will be a great product.VCI team suggested I was overloading the unit...ha...it was a manufacturing defect, I fixed myself! Just go to Radio Shack and get a soldering iron, electronic solder and maybe a $5.00 volt / ohm meter to find break in wire, and fix it yourself, (don't forget to unplug it first...lol)FOUND THE PROBLEM INSIDE THE UNIT!Hi, VCT team, Earlier I sent a reply about the faulty 120 - 240 transformer. I read other feedback statements and thought of what happened to my unit, and figured out what was wrong. I have built and wired transformers myself, in the past, and took it upon myself to fix the problem. Two things were wrong inside, (I realize I voided the warranty, opening the unit, but I hate it when simple issues cause so much delay...,). First thing I noticed, a cold solder joint on the fuse holder itself had failed and the wire completely separated. Second, the fuse holder itself could barely hold the fuse, and didn't stay screwed in properly. Just before failure, I was getting 'flickering'...another 'clue'.I soldered the wire back on the terminal, and added a tiny drop of solder to the fuse holder threads and adjusted the retaining spring. Now the Transformer works better than ever. Great product with this fix! I suspect the other similar customer noted failures could be remedied in a similar manner. See included photos.Your Welcome!

3Not bad...if you fix it first.
By Mike
I ordered two of these units (great price point!). One works flawlessly but the other did not work at all. Turns out the female threads on the fuse holder simply fell out of the unit - which means the fuse wasn't being held in securely and was not getting contact with the yellow wire (to power the unit). I used a little super glue to put the thread collar back into the unit (ensuring to maintain good contact with the yellow wire that's held in there by compression). Reading the other reviews, I expect the other unit to fail sometime in the near future. The good thing about these is there isn't much to them and are easy to fix. Once you fix that cheap fuse holder (which seems to be the culprit on most of these units) they are solid units. Both units are working great now. Three stars because I had to repair one and let's face it...you shouldn't have to repair a brand new product. With all that said, I would order another one.
