Product Description

Made by one of the leading manufacturers in the industry, the Goldsource STU series step up/down voltage transformers offer you a safe, reliable, affordable & convenient solution to converting voltages from 110-120 volts up to 220-240 volts or from 220-240 volts down to 110-120 volts for both home use & industrial applications.

The STU-100 is rated at 100 watts maximum. It features a heavy-duty cord with a standard US 3-prong plug plus a free American to German outlet plug adapter. There are a total of three outputs on the front panel. Two are grounded outputs, one designated for 120 volts with a US standard outlet, the other for 220 volts only with a universal outlet. The last one is a 5V standard USB jack, a unique feature of the STU series & 1st in the industry. And most importantly, all three outputs can be used simultaneously & continuously.

For safety, it's recommended by the manufacturer that the voltage transformer's maximum power should be equal or greater than the power rating of your appliance multiplied by 1.5. For example, if you have an appliance rated at 100 watts, you will need to pick a transformer with a maximum power of 150 watts or greater.

5very good for reliable voltage conversion
By Rajesh Nanda
I purchased this converter for my last visit to India. It works very well is easy to use and does not heat up during use. Comes with an adapter plug so it is ready for use. Remember to tape off the higher voltage outlet as it gives 2 options of output.

3Critical Design Flaw... with an easy fix
By Justin
This product works - but has a critical design flaw. I'm an electrical engineer and I have a few products I designed and sell online - an overseas customer wanted an 220V EU adapter with his order instead of our standard 110V USA adapters. I said no problem - tracked down a suitable EU AC adapter and found this step up/down converter to test them with.My out-of-the-box experience is similar to many others - two blown fuses instantly, and oddly enough the third fuse lasted long enough to test the voltage output before it blew (220VAC, as expected). Being an engineer, I figured I'd open it up and take a look before sending it back - after all, I had an order to fill on my end as well and need a working 220VAC supply. With the chassis off, to my surprise - the unit worked great (kids don't try this at home)! I checked for loose wires and the only odd thing I found was the AC cable strain relief wouldn't hold the cable in the unit. I zip tied the cable on the inside so it would catch on the tie before pulling out of the box - no problem. I put the chassis back on and to my surprise, another blown fuse! After some inspection and testing, I found that the black screw on the side of the unit nearest the USB connector was penetrating enough to touch the leg of a resistor on the USB power PCB. That leg of the resistor had high-current potential voltage, and the screw shorted that to the chassis, which is ground. So, it's an easy fix - you can either:1) Leave that screw out altogether. Being this screw supports the face of the unit, I wouldn't recommend this, but it is a quick fix.2) Use a shorter screw, or just cut about an 1/8" off the tip of the screw so it won't protrude enough to touch the resistor lead. This is what I did and the unit seems to be working fine (as of today). So, as far as I can tell, this unit works, it just has a silly design issue that has an easy fix. Also, something good to note is the safety feature of grounding the chassis DID work - the fuse blew when an internal short occurred. Had the chassis not been grounded it would have been energized with whatever voltage it shorted to - not good!Hope this helps out anyone else having similar issues with this unit.

5Goldsource ST100
By Mr. P. Wadham
Great product - easy to set up and easy to use. Ideal for domestic products that are designed for US or UK/European voltages as it can step the voltage up or down according to your needs.
