The Generac 6179 400-Watt Portable Power Inverter takes a vehicle’s 12-volt DC power and converts it into 120-volt AC and 5-volt USB power through the vehicle battery. With an AC power output of 400-watts, this power inverter can provide high level, compact, portable power that will easily handle tablet computers such as iPads, in addition to cell phones, most laptops, DVD players, small appliances, power tools and more. The Low Battery Shutdown feature provides over-temperature and overload alerts to protect your electronics when the battery cables (included) are connected directly to your vehicle's battery or the accessory plug is connected through your lighter socket. In the middle of Hurricane Sandy, this helped me get through life without electricity for a week. I ordered it days before the storm and it came two days after I lost my power. I was able to power my electronics devices, which was all that I really needed since I had a gas fireplace that worked.

Having grown tired of having to buy over-priced car phone chargers from phone manufacturers every time you get a new phone, I grabbed this unit. You can use the stock wall plug that comes with your phone, or USB cable. Plugging your camera battery charger in is also useful. It only delivers 80W when using the Accessory or Cigarette Lighter sockets inside your vehicle, and the full 400W when connected directly to your battery.

It stopped working after 6 months of use. It worked fine & then died. It worked for 6 whole months.
