5Cheap and easy
By JBW-MO
Item shipped quickly and securely. I hooked the 100 watt solar panel to the unit and it gave me a red light indicating that it was not sensing grid power (it is supposed to do this). I then plugged it in to an outlet and the red light turned off and the 3 green lights started flashing indicating everything was working and it was producing power. Can't be much easier than that!

4Works best with single panel
By aqualung
I bought 2 of these to experiment and have been running them with two identical 36cell 100W panels for about 4 months now. They work! Some observations:- The best efficiency I've measured is about 80-85%, not the 90%+ listed in the spec- Running 2 100W panels in parallel nets me about 125~130W output- Running 1 100W panel by itself on each GTI nets me about 70W each or total of 135~140W combined- Repeated measurements over varying sunlight conditions show me these units run most efficiently when they only have a single panel attached to them.Just a heads up to avoid disappointment! My panels are spec'd at 100W each in 25C ambient lab conditions; in reality it's less due to temperature derating. At midday in June, I was measuring the backside of my panels to run about 55C. With a 0.5%/C derating above 25C ambient, the panels can theoretically put out only 85W. Considering the GTI efficiency to be about 80-85%, max power from my panels is only about 70% of the panel rating, best case. In my 200W panel setup, I can only expect to get at best about 140W, tops in the middle of the summer. Most of the time, I see 130-135W more than I see 140WI opened my SUN300G and compared its innards to pictures of the SUN250G. Both look identical and I'm not sure what the difference really is. There is a single 35V, 4700uF aluminum electrolytic capacitor for filtering on the front; it seems to be a bit undersized and underrated. I see over 2-3VRMS of 120Hz AC ripple on the input when I'm running both 100W panels in parallel, and it probably explains why the cap runs warm (not good for longevity) I attached a single 1000uF cap on the terminal lugs and it brings the ripple down a bit while squeezing about an extra couple watts out of it. Ironically, a 10000uF cap cleaned up the input ripple quite a bit more, but it yielded about 4-5W less output. I surmise the MPPT is measuring peak input voltage rather than an average DC input. If I was to do it again (I probably will), I'd probably buy the SUN250G and attach a single panel to each since the biggest 12V panels don't come in anything much beyond 150W.

3decent
By J2
Uses almost half of my panel output just to convert over to A/C. Good unit but not very impressed with the output. Fan kicks on often if you put more than 100 watts through it.
