I purchased this converter in July 2010 and used it 5 times for a total of about 8 hours to power an oxygen concentrator. In September of 2011 I used it to power a 600watt microwave and the microwave started smoking. I unplugged the microwave from the converter and when I got home I bench tested the converter for power. It was putting out 230 volts AC and a modified square wave. Since it was out of warranty I removed the cover and found numerous defective solder joints on the main circuit board. I paid for shipping the unit back to Power Bright and was informed that the circuit board was defective. They offered to sell me a reconditioned unit for $320.00 but would not consider any rebate for the defective unit. If you purchase one of these units for your RV, make sure you use the dickens out of it before the warranty runs out and if possible, check the actual output voltage before plugging any device into it.

This product is defective. It is a design flaw - nobody in the right mind would ever purchase this if they could see how it was assembled inside. Solder connections are not strong enough to support the weight of the heavier components. If you buy this board - IT WILL QUICKLY FAIL! I even returned it to the manufacturer and was told I received a new unit, only to find out when mechanics were installing it in my work truck that it too was defective. Examining the board showed the company lied to me and returned the same original unit that I had the first time. They had attempted to repair the solders but did a poor job. They also soldered a new fuse around the old blown one rather than replacing it. DO NOT BUY!!

This thing runs my refrigerator and freezer (during black-outs) perfectly including start-up, where a modified sine wave unit rated at 2000 watts wouldn't start them reliably and made them run noisier and hotter. With the pure sine wave it's more effective at lower power rating, and there's no worry about it burning up sensitive electronic equipment with modified sine waves.I stress tested this thing and it ran an 1875 watt hair dryer continuously for 15 minutes before I turned it off (the inverter never heated up or ran the fans, though it was in a 55F garage). The overload alarm tripped when I tried to run both the hair dryer and the freezer as expected. This thing should be able to reliable run a few essentials during black outs (freezer, gas furnace fan), provided there is a good power source (in my case an electric car which I can recharge at urban public chargers a short distance away in case my suburban neighborhood stays dark too long - better than waiting in line for gas at the few stations that have power, and getting tickets for blocking the road while waiting).
