Decent Regulated PSU for not much money

I've bought several of these Pyramid PSU units and never had a problem with any of them. They use linear (i.e., big transformer) type circuits and are well regulated as to voltage. No cheap and noisy "switch-mode" type PSUs here, thank goodness.Just be sure to buy a unit with enough amperage for your intended use. You can never have too many amps, so bigger is always better. If your devices don't need all the amps, then the PSU unit will just run cooler than normal, which is always a good thing!

I needed a supply to provide power to one of my electronic devices and this unit fit my requirements exactly. It's a nice little "beefy" regulated transformer type supply that will fit any similar application very easily.It is well constructed and certainly worth the price. I would recommend it for any purpose such as this.

Works, but probably not for long at this temperature

I own a Pyramid 25-amp supply that's been fantastic over the years, but it's overkill for the lights on my fish aquarium. I bought this expecting the same quality but I'm very disappointed.First off, I'm drawing less than 4A and the whole enclosure gets too hot to touch. Not surprisingly, at that temperature it emits a very strong burning smell that fills the whole room, and frankly scares me that it's going to set the place on fire. I rigged up a CPU fan from an old PC on top of it, and tried it on the rear where the heat sink is located, but either way it wasn't nearly enough to cool it. Then I tried a larger case fan, and it was cooler on the sides but I still couldn't touch near the back, and it still stank. I can't imagine what would happen if I really loaded it at 6A.I also noticed that the binding posts are very poor quality. First off, when I unscrewed them, the whole post unscrewed from the enclosure and came loose. I had to break the cap free, remove it, re-fasten the base of the post, and put it back together. That happens most times I unscrew it. While I did that I noticed something else: these posts don't have a hole through the side so that you can unscrew, feed a wire through the side hole, and fasten it down. With no hole it can be frustrating trying to get a good contact.As far as the buzzing noise others have reported, I can say that it does buzz but not enough to bother me. What will be louder will be the monster cooling fan that I have to mount on top! This thing's destined for the junk drawer.
