Remember to leave at least a 60%-70% slack for the transformer. For the TVs, the power surge margin is 5 times the wattage of the TV. Heating appliances, laser printers and power tools spike when you turn them on. For these products you need to buy a transformer that is at least 3 times the items capacity.

5PLENTY OF WATTAGE
By Lee
-UPDATE-(3/3/12)Still running as new. No issues, rice cooker no errors. Japanese bread maker is producing awesome bread. The Kotatsu table runs better with the TRANSFORMER.When we are lazy to move it from the kitchen to living room then we use the home outlet to warm the Kotatsu table up (QUICK) and then turn it off [prevent damage(time depends on you, 10 min for us)].Natural body heat keeps a Kotatsu table warm when you have central heating available.--ANOTHER NOTE--The Japanese Vacuum cleaner will not make it in the states (give it up) because we did not use the transformer for it only regular power. I do recommend the LG Kompressor Canister PetCare Plus Vacuum Cleaner equivalent to Japanese style in America. Only 3 times more powerful. Worth it.--fin--It is a TRANSFORMER and not a CONVERTER, but I am referring to it as a converter because we didn't even know what we were looking for when we needed something to change the power when we got state side.Moving back to the states, we didn't want to sacrifice all the appliances we purchased in Japan. I was happy that Amazon had this converter for sale. No need to search randomly on the internet to see if your Japanese appliances will work on 120 Volts and 60HZ power (US).The rice cooker had no problem functioning on 120V 60HZ while we waited for the converter. Ofcourse the rice will be extremely hot when it's BUZZED UP with those additional 20 volts and this will eventually ruin the rice cooker. We tried a similiar converter from Home Depot which made the rice cooker display "ERROR".Now the rice cooker and bread maker work simutaneously off this one transformer. The rice cooker needs 400 WATTS and the bread maker requires 500 WATTS. Bread makers are very precise appliances so we were not even going to attempt to run it with out the transformer.I will update this review when we try out the Kotatsu Heating Element. Any appliance used for heating human beings should never be used if they only require 100 VOLTS. Even on the lowest heating setting it will be about .4 times hotter then its usual heat when used with 120 VOLTS.If you need a converter for an appliance with high watt requirements (IE: JAPANESE KOTATSU TABLE) you need an extra WATTAGE BUFFER to ensure stable power output/no damage to your appliance. For the best results it should be 3 times the needed wattage. This is why we didn't want to buy a cheapier converter with less WATTAGE CAPACITY.Before you start wasting money at local retails and shooting in the dark, just purchase this Transformer.

5Transformer Powers Japanese Model IH Rice Cooker Great!
By Bob
SM 2000J - 100V TO 120V JAPANESE TO AMERICAN 2000 WATTS STEP UP/DOWN TRANSFORMER I purchased this Step Up/Step Down transformer to power a 3 cup Japanese IH (Induction Heating) rice cooker in the USA a Mitsubishi Model#NJ-HS06-S.And so far it has been working great. This models wattage is 710 and the 2000 watt transformer allows for the necessary surge margin.VCT Electronics has the low Prices, great customer service, they helped me with my product selection and the shipping was fast.

1Dosappointed
By noagain.1
2000J broken within 2 months.I claimed that but they refused fixing.Only repeated "you should buy more powerful product".But I used only 600W electorics,I bought 2000W max one accourding to product warning(double or triple baffer is nessesary). So I never convinced their explanation. All customer service staffs read same script written in manual(I called several times). It's cheap but I don't recommend to buy it. Every explanation is confusing. Moreover AMAZON.com offered no garantee.Refer the BBB rating 'C', it's evidence.
